It might be a good idea to do THIS in your free-time….

A lot of people have been asking me, “Monnika, you  blog AND participate in other extra-curricular activities… how do you have time to do ALL of this?” All I can say to that is good time management….. and A LOT of planning. I spend almost too much time  planning my days, but its worth not having any questions as the day goes by and it also eliminates so much stress! I can’t tell you any structured layout for how to plan your day, but just remember one thing: Plan to your lifestyle. When I say that I mean DON’T plan your day to do anything in a certain order, because there is truly NO order.

Plan your day to where you can fit everything in and your doing it in a series of events that will please you.

So now that you’ve read that, you’re probably like well what are the benefits of  all of this planning? Well, there’s really only one (other than your day being stress-free and well-organized) and that is all of the free-time you’ll begin to notice. What will you do with all of this free time? Well here are some ideas…

-Learn a language

So in order from least to greatest, the easiest languages to learn are: 5)Esperanto, 4) French, 3) Spanish, 2) Italian, and 1) English. So I know a lot of people have said that English is actually the HARDEST to learn, but when thought about the English language has no cases, gender, word agreement, and  has arguably simple grammar.

Again in order from least to greatest, the hardest languages to learn are: 5) Hungarian, 4) Korean, 3) Japanese, 2) Chinese, and 1) Arabic. The Arabic language has very FEW words that resemble those of the European language. It also has very few vowels which makes it hard to read for those trying to learn how to read the language.

So what programs are good for learning a second language? Here are the top three- in order:

1) Rosetta Stone

2) Pimsler and

3) Transparent Language

-Take up a new hobby

So not exactly the easiest one to do of the options, but obviously the most fun! You get to try new things and experience stuff you may not have tried without an excuse! Well now you have one: You just have TOO much free-time! So what will you try? Food? Sports?

-Donate

So I know this sounds cheesy, but I had to put it down! I’m really big on donating and I know from experience that it’s worth putting your time into. Even if you don’t want to do some of the heavier donating ‘jobs’, like working on a kitchen somewhere, you could always go through your clothes and give the old ones away. Did you know you can also donate hair to charities who make wigs for cancer survivors! Or give $10 to a charity for Cancer Research, Aids Research, all of our big dilemmas basically. I know $10 doesn’t sound like that much, but imagine if 1,000 people just gave $10… that would be $10,000! That is what makes a difference. REMEMBER TO DONATE BLOOD, as well! 😀

Some good places to go if you are interested in donating time:

– Volunteer Match –  http://www.volunteermatch.org

– Idealist – http://www.idealist.org

At these websites you’ll enter your location to view options for donating time in your local area.

If you are interested in donating items, like toys, clothes, etc:

– Goodwill

– Salvation Army

– Vietnam Veterans of America

– Volunteers of America

– The Help Kenya Project

– Operation Give

If you’ve decided on donating hair:

– Locks of Love

– Wigs for Kids

If you’ve decided to donate money for medical purposes:

– Alzheimer’s Association

– American Cancer Society

– American Diabetes Association

– American Heart Association

– American Kidney Fund

– Arthritis Foundation

– Autism Speaks

– Chronic Disease Fund

– Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

These are NOT all there are to donate to, so if you would still like to read more info. on donating…

They even had a formula for calculating this chart; Again, you can see it right below!

The formula for calculating the Top Rated 250 Titles gives a true Bayesian estimate:

 weighted rating (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C

where:

  • R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
  • v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
  • m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 25000)
  • C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 7.1)

for the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.

So as you can see above their top ten consist of: 1) The Shawshank Redemption, 2) The Godfather, 3) The Godfather: Part II, 4) Pulp Fiction, 5) The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, 6) 12 Angry Men, 7) Schindler’s List, 8) The Dark Knight, 9) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. I have no thoughts towards these movies, but mainly because I have never seen ANY of them. If I am missing out PLEASE tell me; There isn’t anything better than a great movie! So because my list was so different, I decided I would write about it…

1) Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

2) Wanderlust

3) Baby Mama

4) Step Brothers

5) Total Recall – THE ORIGINAL, not really any of the recent ones…

6) Fletch Lives

7) The Big Lebowski

8) Blow

9) Black Sheep

10) The Princess Bride

So just to clarify, THESE ARE NOT my absolute favorite movies of all time! They are just some movies I think are good and that come to mind right now. So now that you’ve read this…. Tell me:

What is a movie you think should’ve been on IMDB’s movie list?
